MOCK EXAM:The Natural World
For the exam I chose the theme of the natural world. This theme really appealed to me as I am interested in working with the idea of how humans affect nature. I am really exited to go outside and shoot in a natural environment and would like to experiment with light. I am also really interested in using collage as this is something I have not tried before.
My pinterest board.
POPPLET
I made this popplet by choosing my favourite images from the pinterest board. I selected the images I found most inspiring and wrote down the ideas I would like to explore. The technique I am most interested in trying is collage. In the past I have tried using photoshop to create collage's yet have never been happy with the results. I am looking forward to experimenting with different ways of editing my pictures to get a more blended effect.

Merve ozaslan.
Merve Ozaslan is an artist based in Istanbul who created a portfolio of works called "Natural act". I am really interested in her images as they look at the ballence between nature and urban life. I really love the mix of vintage and modern images, I also think the contrast of coloured and black and white pictures is really interesting. I would really like to create some collages combining images of nature with images of buildings.

"Natural act is composed by several collages based on the questions of the relation between nature and the humanity. It is basically a critical presentation referring to the fact that each of us is part of the nature. Natural act appears with its all colours when our emotions are paralysed in the vital points of the cliche and dull city life." Merve ozaslan. |
FIRST SET OF IMAGES.
For this set of pictures I focused on taking images with one object as the focus of the picture. I tried to imagine what it would look like if the central object was replaced by a single colour or another image. I was inspired to make a collage after looking through Pinterest as I think they can look really interesting. I was interested in combining nature with something processed and man made in the same way Merve Ozaslan dose. A common theme of the images I looked at on Pinterest is that they used glitter to cover objects. I think the combination of natural objects and unnatural glitter actually works really well. I really like the fantasy like image it creates.
edits.
I chose to combine pictures of holographic paper with some of the images from my first set of pictures. A common theme of the images I looked at on Pinterest is that they used glitter to cover objects. I think the combination of natural objects and unnatural glitter actually works really well. I really like the fantasy like image it creates and would like to use photoshop to create more images in this way. I experimented with multiple layers and filters to create my final edits.
1.ROSE
I first took the image of the rose and put it into photoshop. I then placed the image of the holographic paper over the picture of the rose. I hid the holographic paper layer and used the poligonal lasso to trace around the petal I wanted to fill. I then selected the holographic layer and copied the highlighted shape out of the image. I did this for a further 4 petals and then got rid of the holographic layer. This left me with the shape of the petals in the holographic print. I then murged all of the layers to form on single image. I then duplicated the image and put the 'gausian blur' effect on the copied image. I then lowered the opacity of the layer slightly so the image had a slight haze over it. I also edited the image by adding s-curves and edited the colour balance of the image to get the picture bellow. I am really happy with the way it turned out and repeat this again.

My Favorite
This is my favourite picture I created. I love the image that I used to collage over the picture and think the rainbow colours are so lovely. I really like the way I edited the picture and love the warmth of the image.
These are my 3 final pictures. I actually really love them as they are really personal to me. All of the original images I used, I took whilst on holiday with my friends. They are therefore already special to me so I loved to work on something that means a lot to me. My idea is to print them onto postcards so they are like postcards of my holiday. I think this could look good as I like the idea of them being small as I cant imagine them on a larger scale. I am very exited to start printing them and would like to try to do this again.
TINA CRESPO.
|
Tina Crespo is an american lifestyle photographer. I am most interested in her "typography" images, specifically the images on the left. I love the combination of imagery and text and would like to try to use words when presenting my pictures. I like the simplicity of the pictures and really love the circular framing of the images. I am hoping to try create some images like this of my own. |
EUGENIA LOLI
Eugenia Loli is an artist who creates collages using a mix of new and old photos. I really love her work as they are both visually rich and busy whist being humorous. I love the use of old vintage photos to create new modern images. I love all of them but my two favourites are the one with water melons and the one with an origami star. Some of them are very similar to the pieces I have created as she also uses pictures to cover the silhouettes of objects. |

THREE TREES.
iCE EXPeriments
Here are my ice experiments. I had been thinking of experimenting with this process for a while and found it really interesting to create and work with the different objects. I went outside and collected numerous small flowers and leaves then placed them in ice moulds. I was interested in continuing on the idea of how humans affect nature and incorporating this into my work. Both ice and flowers are natural, yet here they become something man made. I think the idea of how we can create so much from nature is incredibly powerful. I think they are quite interesting and came out nicely. I don't like all of the colours put together but think the compositions of each individual cube work well.
PHOTOSHOOT: BUILDINGS
Here I went through the same photoshop proscess as I had done so previously. Over this project I have really developed my photo editing skills and have truly enjoyed the entire editing proscess. This is the second set of images I have created, this time with the theme of "buildings". These are my response to my previous set of "beach" images I made. My first set was based on unatural objects being placed in natural situations, so these are the reverse. I chose to use photos from London this time
